SAHARA organises open day at Al Aweer Hobbies Club as part of its community campaign

SAHARA Media Consultancy, a member of the Sahara Group, in cooperation with Mega Wraps Restaurants, organised an open day at the Hobbies Club in Al Aweer, Dubai, on Friday 15 April 2011 as part of its community campaign, which calls for the promotion of swimming, shooting and equestrian sports

The open day, which was open exclusively to media representatives, included horse riding activities and horse shows. All guests were allowed to ride hoses and were served healthy meals from Mega Wraps.

Sahara aims to generate public awareness, particularly among office workers, regarding the importance of playing sport on a regular basis to avoid exposure to modern lifestyle diseases and conditions, such as obesity and back pain. Recent statistics estimate that the rate of obesity is at 20 to 30 percent among the
UAE adult population and six percent among children.

Speaking on the occasion, Sahara Group Vice President Fahad Al Deeb said, "Through this campaign we aim to deliver a clear message to public about the necessity of taking part in sport to maintain health and reduce the rapidly rising rate of lifestyle diseases that can be attributed to lack of sport and poor nutrition".

"We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Hobbies Club for their hospitality, for affording guests the use of the club's facilities and providing them with access to exciting activities such as horse riding and other shows. We also extend our thanks to Mega Wraps for joining us in this campaign and providing guests with healthy food. We want our message - the importance of health advice, sport and healthy food - to reach the public and be beneficial to all. Finally, thanks to all media representatives who joined us for this day and contributed to conveying this message to the public through various media sources," Al Deeb added.

Arif Ali Al Abbar, Managing Director of the Hobbies Club, said, "We at the Hobbies Club believe in the importance of Sahara's campaign, and we stress the importance of regular participation in sport for all members of society, regardless of their age. We call on all companies to encourage their employees to take part in physical and mental development programs, in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, who is himself an avid equestrian. Participating in sport can help improve the employee performance and corporate productivity".

Issam Al Taher, Managing Director of Mega Wraps, stressed the importance of paying attention to the calorie content of fast food, as well as noting potentially harmful ingredients, saying, "In preparing our food, Mega Wraps takes into consideration a number of important elements, starting with using the highest quality healthy and fresh raw ingredients, and avoiding creating high calorie meals. We have a stringent quality management system to ensure safety, hygiene and health. We guarantee that all meals served by our restaurants are healthy, and our participation in this important event underlines our commitment to spreading awareness among the public. We extend our thanks to Sahara, the sponsoring company, for giving us the chance to take part in this activity".

He added: "Mega Wraps is among the first restaurants to use both white and brown freshly baked pita bread. Our bread contains fewer carbohydrates than most, and people will therefore have a higher proportion of vegetable and protein to carbohydrates compared to sandwiches using other types of bread. The prevalence of this type of bread has increased, and it is now used in a large number of restaurants worldwide".
