Hobbies Club launches 15th Rashid Summer Camp – ‘Love for the UAE and loyalty to our wise Leaders’

“20 June- 20 July 2011”

Hobbies Club, in cooperation with the Community Development Authority, has announced the launch of the 15th Rashid Summer Camp under the theme ‘Love for the UAE and loyalty to our wise Leaders’.

The announcement was made during a press conference held on Wednesday 25 May 2011, in the presence of Hobbies Club Chairman Arif Al Abbar, and Community Development Authority representative, as well as a number of youth and sports specialists, and media representatives.

The 2011 Rashid Summer Camp will offer a variety of activities and programmes designed to stimulate the physical and mental growth of the youth, and to help them explore, refine and develop their talents in various areas. The Camp has a very successful track record, and previous editions have been appreciated and commended by social and educational communities, as well as by the media.

Speaking on the occasion, Al Abbar said, “This year’s Rashid Summer Camp is very special because it is being held under the theme ‘Love for the UAE and loyalty to our wise Leaders’, and will reflect Emirati’s deep love for their nation and its achievements, past and present. The UAE’s many accomplishments have come about under the leadership of the country’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his brother, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, as well as under the directives of current President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, his brother, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and the rulers of the other Emirates. The camp will familiarise new generations of Emiratis with the tremendous efforts exerted in developing the UAE and its people and advancing the status of the country through developing future generations”.

“Loyalty is the main focus of this year’s Rashid Summer Camp activities, which pay tribute to the leaders who continue working to ensure that UAE citizens are culturally advanced, now and into the future. Loyalty is a legacy that is firmly established in our minds and hearts, and that highlights the UAE’s strength and the solidarity of the leadership with their people, in light of the leaders’ support and care for all groups of society. For this, we show our gratitude by organising youth activities such as the camp, which will benefit future generations,” Al Abbar added.

Al Abbar also commended the cooperation Hobbies Club has received from government parties in making the Camp’s activities successful, particularly the Community Development Authority and the Dubai Sports Council, which will provide for students from various clubs in Dubai to participate in the camp. UAE-based public relations firm SAHARA Communications has also contributed its support to the Camp and helped to raise awareness of its message among the UAE public. The Hobbies Club aims to further enhance cooperation with relevant parties by opening its door to all youth summer activities, communities and clubs.

The Camp aims to fill up some of the free time youth have in abundance during the summer holidays, and to manage this time positively through mutual understanding and friendship between participants, who interact with each other for a set period of time, forming new friendships and strengthening social relations. The Camp helps youth to learn new physical skills, including horse riding and shooting, and how to deal safely with arms and ammunition. Other activities include teaching participants about hospitality and etiquette, helping them to form character by changing their routines and teaching them new habits through social interaction, as well as helping them acquire new information and knowledge through the cultural programme.

In addition to horse riding and shooting, scheduled sporting activities include swimming and self-defence, while cultural activities include Qur’an recitation, computer and Internet courses, public morals, ethics and behaviour, as well as entertainment activities such as expeditions, video game competitions, sporting competitions (football, volleyball and basketball), and games (bikes, table tennis and table football, or foosball).

The culmination of each year’s camp, for both participants and supporting parties, is the generous gesture of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, who allows them to visit the holy places to perform Umrah onboard his own aircraft.

Associated activities include social service activities, which will be divided into three parts of two weeks each and will include running certain awareness campaigns. These campaigns will involve radio broadcasting, distributing pamphlets and educational guides about the campaigns, organising lectures and seminars for academics and experts in fields relevant to the campaigns, arranging complete media coverage for the campaigns through local media, and making field visits. Social awareness campaigns – such as the ‘importance of prayer’ campaign, the ‘Love and peace’ campaign, the ‘Love your nation’ campaign, and the ‘Loyalty to our leaders’ campaign – are also scheduled. The Camp will call on participants to identify and continue with the UAE’s achievements, and to highlight the positive aspects of the country for both nationals and residents.

A number of camps will be organised in other emirates to run alongside the Rashid Summer Camp, including a three-day dive training camp in Al Fujairah, and three-day water-ski training camp in Ras Al Khaimah.

Established in 1996, the Hobbies Club is the region's oldest educational and sporting club, and aims to support national youth and encourage young men and women to explore their hobbies by getting involved in sporting, recreational and educational activities through a range of educational courses, youth camps, awareness campaigns and joint programmes organized in collaboration with various ministries and government departments.
